An 8-hour train journey over 291 bridges, through 91 tunnels and over the Oberalp Pass at an altitude of 2,033 m. That’s the world famous Glacier Express from St. Moritz to Zermatt.

Europe’s highest Alpine crossing

The Rhaetian Railway’s Albula and Bernina route was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008. And rightly so.

The Albula and Bernina route between Thusis and Tirano made the Alpine landscape accessible like never before. The line is one of the most spectacular narrow-gauge railways in the world. The Albula section was completed in 1903, with the Bernina section following in 1910. Even at the time of its construction, the Albula route was considered a genuine masterpiece. The Bernina Pass is the highest Alpine crossing in Europe and one of the steepest adhesion railways in the world.

Bernina Express

From the glaciers to the palms

This spectacular journey takes you across the Bernina pass (2,253 metres a.s.l.), through the romantic wilderness of Alpine valleys, past glaciers and mountain peaks, through Puschlav and all the way to Tirano in Italy.

It’s no longer necessary to forge new paths across the Alps, as the most stunning Alpine crossing has already been built: the Albula and Bernina sections of the Rhaetian Railway. They unite northern and southern Europe in a uniquely captivating way – with the Bernina Express. The route from Thusis to Tirano was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008.

Palm Express

Panoramic trip in a PostBus

This PostBus trip takes you from St. Moritz past the Upper Engadin lakes, over the Maloja Pass, through the Bergell valley to Chiavenna (Italy), along Lake Como and Lake Lugano all the way to Lugano.

The Palm Express crosses the national border in Castasegna and shortly afterwards reaches the northern Italian town of Chiavenna, where the Maloja and Splügen routes meet. The section along Lake Como towards Menaggio is particularly beautiful. The 3.5-hour trip finishes in Ticino’s commercial capital Lugano.

A fascinating journey from St. Moritz to Venice taking in seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites along the way.

Launched in 2008, the Venice–South Tyrol–St. Moritz Tour features a combination of rail and PostBus travel. It connects the lagoon city of Venice on the Adriatic Sea with the former Olympic city of St. Moritz in the Swiss Alps (1,856 m a.s.l.) – and takes in seven UNESCO World Heritage sites and the Swiss National Park along the way. The tour is available daily in both directions all year round and takes around eight hours (depending on the timetable).
